Valerie A. Teachout


Valerie Teachout is a seasoned employment lawyer and litigator with over 20 years’ experience. She is licensed to practice law in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

She obtained a summary judgment reversal in Merritt v. Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc., 601 F.3d 289 (4th Cir. 2010), a now foundational and often-cited sex discrimination decision from the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Ms. Teachout has advised and represented innumerable private and public-sector clients in cases arising under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, and the Fair Labor Standards Act, and Virginia whistleblower retaliation laws.


She has represented private-sector clients in state and federal courts, as well as administrative tribunals such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

She also has been representing public sector employees for many years before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Merit Systems Protection Board.
